Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a comprehensive psychotherapy technique that helps individuals process and recover from past experiences that are affecting their mental health and well-being. Here's how it works:

What Is EMDR?
- EMDR combines eye movements with talk therapy in a specific and structured format.
- The goal is to process negative images, emotions, beliefs, and body sensations associated with traumatic memories that seem to be "stuck."
Originally developed for treating trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder, EMDR can also assist with other mental health difficulties, including:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Addictions
- Behavioral issues
- Relationship challenges
- More serious mental illnesses like psychosis and personality disorders.

How Does EMDR Work?
- EMDR follows a specific structure and involves several stages:
Assessment: Evaluating current symptoms and readiness for EMDR.
Understanding the Past: Exploring how past experiences have shaped the present.
Processing Traumatic Memories: Bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements) is used to access the subconscious mind and reprocess stored memories.
- The therapist helps clients prepare for memory processing, ensuring safety throughout the therapy.
- By accessing traumatic memories and using bilateral stimulation, EMDR aims to reduce the vividness and emotional impact of those memories, promoting healing from the inside out.
